Nine members of the Aledo varsity tennis team traveled to Texas Tech University in Lubbock on May 8 to compete in the 5A Region I Tennis Championships. Two teams made it to Round 2 in the bracket, but none advanced to Day 2 of the competition.

Bryanna Orr competed in Girls Singles and lost to Lubbock 6-3, 6-1.  Kenley Germany and Lila Satterfield battled Argyle in Girls Doubles and were defeated 6-1, 6-1. Craig Mason and Benjamin Farmer competed against Amarillo in Boys Doubles and lost -46, 6-4.

Both Mixed Doubles teams made it past the first round. Jacob Heckathorn and Patrice Loftin defeated South Hills 6-1, 6-3, but fell to the No. 2 seed Abilene Wiley 6-1, 6-1.

Scott Mason and Elli Kate Bussmeir defeated Colleyville Heritage in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) to advance to Round 2. The duo then lost a long, close battle with Amarillo, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

The regional competition marked the last high school match for seniors Mason, Farmer, Germany and Mason.

The Bearcats ended their spring season with a district championship for both boys and girls varsity and will soon begin training for a new season of team tennis in the fall.
