Locals among THSRA finalists

Led by Will Bushaw of Weatherford, who is seeking a third consecutive trip to nationals, several participants from Weatherford are, likewise seeking a berth alongside him as they compete in the Texas High School Rodeo Association Finals in Abilene. 

The competition wraps up Saturday, June 15. The top four finishers in each event qualify to advance to the National High School Finals Rodeo July 14-20 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Jesus Villa had the highest regular season ranking among local competitors. He was first in bull riding in Region 3.

Bushaw, who competes in boys cutting, finished the regular season ranked third in Region 3 of the THSRA. Two years ago he finished second in the nation. In 2023, despite competing with a sick horse, he placed 10th.

Also ranked third from Weatherford are Kynzington Muth in barrel racing in Region 3 and Clayton Praytor in calf roping in Region 10.

Beldon Cox ranked fifth in Region 3 team roping. Addison Allen and Kate Allen finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in girls cutting in Region 3. 

Jack Smith qualified for state finals with a seventh-place regular-season finish in bull riding. Also, Hayden Smith ended the regular season ranked eighth in Region 10 calf roping.
