Ladycats reach midpoint in second place

Pull away from Granbury in second half

The Aledo Ladycats basketball team, following a 41-33 victory at Granbury on Friday, Jan. 12, have reached the midpoint of the District 5-5A race in second place. The Ladycats (22-8 overall) are 5-1 in league play, a game behind Brewer and a game ahead of third-place Granbury.

In defeating the Lady Pirates, Aledo held a 21-20 halftime lead, but stretched its advantage to six points, 32-26, entering the fourth quarter.

Kinley Elms led eight Ladycats who scored, bucketing a dozen points.

The Ladycats improved to 5-1 in games decided by eight points or less this season.

Pirates top Bearcats

The Bearcats' woes in District 5-5A continued with a 70-63 loss at Granbury on Jan. 12. They dropped to 1-3 in district and to 12-10 overall. 

It was the 14th game decided by eight points or less for the Bearcats this season. They are 7-7 in those games.

Scoring statistics for the Bearcats were not available at press time.

The Bearcats and Ladycats will host Justin Northwest on Friday, Jan. 19 and travel to play Saginaw on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The girls tip off at 6:15 in each game and the boys start at 7:30 p.m.
