Bearcats star back makes early commitment

Ray Guillory has a lot of football to play for the Aledo Bearcats, but it seems he has decided where his next destination will be after he finishes his high school career. He has committed to become a University of Texas Longhorn, according to a report from Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

Guillory is a sophomore set for graduation from Aledo in 2026. Though he missed the state championship game with an injury, he played a pivotal role in Aledo’s advance to a state-record 12th championship and a 16-0 season in 2023.

The Bearcats defeated Smithson Valley 51-8 in the Class 5A Division I final at AT&T Stadium on Dec. 15.

Guillory, a move-in following his freshman season at Mansfield Lake Ridge, made an immediate impact in Aledo. He led the Bearcats in rushing with 1,207 yards on just 145 carries, averaging close to a first down on each carry (8.3 yards).

He also scored a team-high 21 touchdowns, 17 rushing and four receiving.

Guillory’s receiving skills make him a multi-threat. He had 10 catches for 175 yards and caught every catchable pass thrown his way, recording no drops the entire season.

Guillory amassed these statistics despite missing five complete games because of injury, two in the regular season and three in the playoffs.

“Any school’s going to be lucky to get Ray,” Aledo coach Robby Jones said. “He’s going to come back strong from that injury.”

In his first game as a Bearcat, Guillory proved he would be a force. He rushed for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 11 carries, along with catching two passes for 70 yards and another score against Dallas Parish Episcopal.

Guillory rushed for over 100 yards in each of his first four games for Aledo. He followed the DPE game with 27 carries for 138 yards and three TD against Denton Guyer, 25 carries for 122 yards and a TD against Northwest, and 107 yards on just five carries with two TD against Azle.

He finished the regular season with 773 yards rushing on 114 carries.

After missing the first game of the postseason due to injury, Guillory had the two best games of his high school career. He gained 180 yards and scored two touchdowns against Lubbock Cooper, followed by 189 yards and four TD  on 14 carries against Red Oak.

He was on his way to another sterling performance against Abilene in the regional final, picking up 65 yards on five carries, before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

In his one season at Lake Ridge, which did not include a playoff appearance, Guillory led the Eagles in rushing yards (769 on 125 carries) and touchdowns (13, 9 rushing, 4 receiving). He also caught 18 passes for 154 yards and three scores.
