Bearcats ink seven to early scholarships

Five going Division I

On the heels of a 16-0 season that saw them win a state-record 12th state championship, the Class 5A Division I champion Aledo Bearcats had seven players sign early college letters-of-intent. To honor this, a celebration was held on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

"You get seven guys signing early, that tells you how much talent we had on the team this season," first-year Bearcats head coach Robby Jones said. "Not only talented, but hard workers, which led to great results as a team.

"Everybody has a goal to play in college, and these guys are about to realize it."

All of the programs are high profile in their respective categories. TCU competes in the Big 12, which Arizona State is joining next season, giving local fans more opportunities to see Hejny and Johnson. LSU and Arkansas compete in the Southeastern Conference, which has won 14 national championships since 2004, including the past four.

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns played a thrilling game against Jacksonville State in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 16, going overtime before falling 34-31.

All of the aforementioned school are NCAA Division I. Stephen F. Austin plays at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level, formerly known as I-AA. The program has a history of success, having even played for a national championship at one time.

Tyler Junior College, also known as TJC, is one of the most renowned junior colleges in the United States and has competed for national championships throughout the years.
