Three Parker County Sheriff’s deputies were presented with the Life-Saving Award during the recent Parker County Commissioners Court session. The awards are in recognition for their actions in the line of duty where the deputies were serving a warrant earlier this year.
The Parker Commissioners Court citation read, “For exemplary courage in the face of danger and decisive action to preserve life while assigned to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division: Corporal Luis Montanez, Deputy Joseph Evans, and Deputy Randy Lawson distinguished themselves on January 30, 2024, during an attempted warrant service in Parker County.
As the deputies approached the suspect, he opened fire at the deputies, striking a patrol unit and Deputy Evans’ duty belt. The deputies returned fire, striking the suspect several times. Deputies then gave him emergency medical treatment at the scene, which resulted in saving the suspect’s life.
Sheriff Russ Authier said the deputies displayed courage under fire while relying on their training, safety and protocol procedures.
“The deputies’ actions protected nearby civilians inside their homes while providing coverage for each other, and further provided first aid to the suspect,” Authier said. “Their actions resulted in saving the life of the suspect as well as preventing further harm.”
