Cowboy up for PCSP Frontier Days

Posted

Get your cowboy on and bring the herd to Frontier Days and the 77th Annual Frontier Days Rodeo when Weatherford comes alive for the week-long celebration with cowboy skills and music June 1-8.

Ingrained in their heritage, the opening of the 1947 Parker County Sheriff’s Posse charter encourages members, “...in keeping alive the true traditions of the Old West, sacred heritage of all Texans,” and the organization delivers in grand style.

Early risers can witness a cattle drive coming into Weatherford Saturday, June 1 on W. Hwy. 180 from Milsap to the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Grounds, 2251 Mineral Wells Hwy. U.S. 180.  Sheriff’s Posse riders and cattle start moseying at 7 a.m. and reach the rodeo grounds around 8 a.m.

Gather along S. Main Street that evening at 6:30 for the grand Frontier Days Rodeo Parade. The night will end with a street dance in downtown Weatherford starting at 7:30 with Tyler Bond, followed by Leon Payne, performing.

Rodeo memories

Mallory Morris competed at the famed rodeo as a member of the Weatherford High School Rodeo Team.

“I rodeoed for most of my life,” the WHS 2019 graduate recalled. “It was really fun competing, and the rodeo team would also help at the parade. It was so exciting seeing those big crowds.”

Morris works in the Cadillac division of Jerry’s Buick GMC, which is a longtime sponsor of Frontier Days and Rodeo.

The rodeo begins Tuesday, June 4 with bull riding, sponsored by Chick-fil-A, when 40 bulls will take on hopeful cowboys in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events.

Tickets are available at the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce 401 Fort Worth Hwy., and at the arena box office. Gates open at 6 p.m.
