Ladycats bring home top hardware

After dropping their home opener to Tenaha on Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Aledo Ladycats got back on track over the weekend as they ran the table en route to a tournament championship in Brock. Aledo won four games in three days to capture the trophy. 

Aledo’s Brooklyn Dempsey was named Tournament MVP. Caroline Browning, Elizabeth Griffin, and Kinley Elms were named to the All-Tournament Team representing the Ladycats.

The opening round of tournament play got underway on Thursday, Nov. 16, where Aledo matched up with Liberty Christian. Aledo pulled out a 50-35 win as they looked to Day 2.

On Friday, Nov. 17, Aledo took to the court for a pair of games as they worked their way through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. In the quarterfinals, the Ladycats defeated the Australia Dunkaroos, 64-47.

In the semifinals Aledo met up with Stephenville. A second-half rally made the difference as the Ladycats came from behind to sting the Honeybees, 37-33, to advance to the tournament championship game against the hosting Lady Eagles.

For the second game in a row the Ladycats fell behind early before dropping the hammer in the second half to pull off the comeback. Aledo outpaced Brock 15-9 in the final quarter to seal their spot atop the podium.

The Ladycats will enjoy a bit of downtime during the Thanksgiving holiday before getting back to action when they host Sanger on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Tipoff for that matchup is slated for 6:15 p.m.
