Each summer the Parker County Peach Festival is a destination point for folks who love to travel - and, of course, for those who love peaches.
This year’s event takes place on Saturday, July 13 in downtown Weatherford. And it will feature a special treat - the world’s largest peach cobbler.
The Weatherford Chamber of Commerce has been spearheading a project that will shatter the world record, which has been 2,251 pounds in Louisiana. This one is going to be in the neighborhood of 5,000 pounds.
That’s a LOT of cobbler. And yes, it can be eaten at the event, Weatherford Chamber of Commerce Director Tammy Gazzola said.
Local non-profits will be working the cobbler booth to sell tastings of the huge cobbler and all the proceeds will go directly to local non-profits.
"Each year, we strive to enhance the festival experience with new attractions, entertainment, and of course, our world-class peach cobbler," Gazzola said. "This dedication to quality and innovation continues to attract growing numbers of attendees, making it a highlight of the summer for many."
The Festival began in 1984 and continues to bring visitors from throughout the state and beyond. Along with the giant cobbler, those in attendance can buy locally grown peaches to their heart’s content.
In fact, the day will be filled with plenty of peach-themed delicacies, including peach juleps, peach pie, peach ice cream - and even peach ribs. There will also be over 200 art, craft, food and activity vendors.
The food competition is also a favorite - especially for those fortunate enough to be a judge.
And when it’s time for a break, grab a seat and enjoy local talent on one of two entertainment stages.
For easy - and free - transportation to the festival, hop on one of the air-conditioned shuttles from the Weatherford ISD Ninth-Grade Center, Weatherford College or Heritage Park.
Cost is $10 for adults, $5 kids ages 5-12 and under age 5 are free. Tickets can be purchased at www.peachfestivaltx.com.
