The summer season of swim competition came to an end recently for the Weatherford and Walsh Wahoos swim teams at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas from July 30-Aug. 2 at Texas A&M University in College Station.
Weatherford swimmers brought home a total of 11 medals with top three finishes (three gold, three silver, five bronze).
“We had a lot of kids drop a lot of time. They all performed extremely well,” Weatherford assistant coach Matt Williams said.
Leading Weatherford with a pair of gold medals was Rebekah Berg in the Females 6-Under division. She also captured a silver.
In the Females 25-29 age group, KaLynn Alexander won Weatherford’s other gold medal, also bringing home a silver. Lady Davis, competing in the Females 30-34 category, claimed a silver and bronze.
Other top-three finishes by Weatherford competitors were by Parker Berg (Males 6-Under, silver), Timothy Stilwell (Males 11-12, bronze), Williams (Males 35-39, silver), and Bailey Mezger (Females 18-24, bronze).
The lone top-three finish for Walsh was posted by Sydney Austin, who captured a silver in the Females 6-Under division.
Also for Weatherford, while not a top-three finish, Williams noted the rise of the Females 11-12 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Reagan Richey, Virginia Sonderer, Chandler and Chloe Brumfield entered the meet as the No. 17 seed and finished seventh with a time of 2:11.13.
“This was one of our most successful seasons all due to the hard work the kids put in throughout the summer,” Williams said.
All swimmers who finished in the top also qualified to compete in the State Games of America, which are held every two years. The next ones will be July 14-28 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
