The Bearcats entered the month of February in control of their own destiny. After ending January falling short against Brewer after leading most of the game, Aledo ran the table picking up wins in each of their final four games, capped off by a 50-44 win over Northwest in Justin on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
The win on Tuesday bumped the Bearcats (19-11 overall, 8-4 in district) from the No. 4 seed in District 5-5A into a tie with Granbury for third place. Final seeding for the playoffs will be determined with a one-game playoff against the Pirates on Friday, Feb. 16 at Weatherford High School. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
Aledo and Granbury split their district games. The Pirates winning 70-63 at home on Jan. 12 and the Bearcats winning 46-44 at home on Feb. 6.
On Tuesday, with business left to tend to, the Bearcats got right to work. Jack Sawyer and Joaquin Pacheco teamed up to score 10 points in the first quarter while the Texans only managed to muster a half dozen.
Action picked up at both ends of the floor in the second quarter with the home team outpacing the Bearcats ever so slightly, 16-15. With the first half in the books, Aledo held a slight 25-22 lead.
When play resumed in the third quarter, the two squads went shot-for-shot. Aledo scored 16 points with Jackson Todd contributing eight of them for his first points of the game. With just a quarter left to play, Aledo continued to hold their three-point lead, 41-38.
In the final eight minutes off action, the Bearcats salted away the game, tacking on nine points to put space between themselves and the Texans on the scoreboard.
