JV boys post perfect score

Posted

Don’t tell the Aledo cross country team that repetition is boring. They likely find it pretty exciting as once again the district meet resulted in Aledo taking the top spots in the District 5-5A Meet at Central Park in White Settlement this past Friday.

The Bearcats and Ladycats swept the varsity championships, while the junior varsity boys — for the second time this season — posted a perfect score en route to winning their championship. The JV girls finished third.

The Ladycats varsity posted a team score of 27 points and the Bearcats finished with 23. The JV boys had the top five individual finishers in their division for a perfect score of 15.

“It was a great day for all. It is now on to regionals for the varsity teams. Extremely proud of every one of our runners!” said an excited coach Mike Pinkerton. “They have the dedication to put in the work and the mileage all season long.  Great season!”

The Region I Meet is Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Lubbock. From there the top four teams and the top 10 individuals not on those teams will advance to state in Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 5.

For the varsity boys, it was a fifth consecutive district championship as they seek a return to state. The Ladycats won district for a fourth time in five years, reclaiming a title that slipped away from them last season — though they did qualify as the third-place team.

Jack Fink defended his district title, coming in first with a time of 16 minutes, 43.88 seconds over the 5K course. Molly Garrison won the girls championship, clocking a 19:26.20.

In fact, the Ladycats had the top three individual finishers. Sophia Brandenburg was second in 20:17.25 and Elizabeth Griffin took third in 20:46.82. Also, Sidney Tillotson was sixth with a 21:35.19 and Aubrey Connally was 15th in 22:44.79.

Four other Bearcats broke the top 10. They were Vincent Luffey, fourth, 17:12.55; Henry Zedler, fifth, 17:44.37; Dominick Barrera, sixth, 17:09.49; and Anderson Smith, seventh, 17:54.96. Just outside the top 10 were Luke Schabel, 12th, 18:25.07 and Sam Haught, 13th, 18:31.27.

First among JV boys was Lincoln Tuin, 18:54.62; followed by Bo Merrill, second, 19:40.12; James Price, third, 19:51.77; Daniel Stephens, fourth, 19:56.37; and Chad Thomas, 20:04.51. Also, Ian Robbins was 19th, 22:06.00; Christian Flores, 24th, 22:27.67; and Caden West, 33rd, 23:07.13.

Emily Lewis took second individually among JV girls, clocking a 23:59.78. Sadie Williams was fourth, 24:04.38; Caroline Brewing, ninth, 24:56.82; Catie Weimer, 17th, 26:26.24; Maddy Shepard, 29th, 29:28.03; and Ashton Teague, 43rd, 38:51.80.
