Wild has strong showing at TAAF state

Posted

The Weatherford Wild wrapped up their summer swim season with a strong showing at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Games of Texas in Brownsville July 26-28.

“We did well! Got between 30-40 medals and ribbons overall, including relays,” Wild coach Matt Williams said. “We competed against a lot of teams that get to swim year-round and held our own with only 33 kids.”

Williams won the lone gold medal for the Wild, taking first place in the Males 35-39 100-yard individual medley. He clocked a time of 1 minute, 8.72 seconds for the gold medal.

Two other male swimmers placed second in their respective age groups. Bowen Judd captured a silver medal with a time of 34.87 in the 11-12 50 backstroke, while Enson Griffith posted a 2:04.58 for silver in the 18-24 200 freestyle.

Leading the female competitors for the Wild was the third-place Girls 11-12 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of Charlotte Borme, Brinley Richey, Madison Balaban and Blair Mezger finished in 2:09.41 for a bronze medal.

In all, the Wild had 11 top-five finishes.
