The Weatherford Kangaroos and Trinity Christian Academy Eagles basketball teams took the floor for Friday night games on Nov, 22, while Aledo (3-0) was idle ahead of back-to-back home games Monday and Tuesday at press time against Midlothian Heritage and Eagle Mountain, respectively.
The Kangaroos basketball team continued its hot start to the season, taking down O.D. Wyatt by a final score of 72-43 on the road Friday night. The win marked Weatherford’s fifth straight victory to start its 2024 campaign under the direction of second-year head coach Neal Welch.
Against Wyatt, the Roos saw three players – Brendan Ballard, Deshaun Lewis and Alex Rodden – reach double figures. Ballard, a senior post, registered 11 points and eight rebounds while Lewis, a senior guard, added 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Rodden scored a team-high 12 points to go with five rebounds and one assist.
Before their latest victory, the Roos (5-0) notched double-digit wins over Lakeview Centennial, Arlington, Midland Legacy and Memorial. Weatherford has won each of its first five games by an average margin of 17.2 points.
Weatherford was hosting an improved LD Bell (6-1) Monday, followed by a road contest at Midlothian (5-3), both at press time.
The Willow Park Trinity Christian Eagles earned a hard-fought win over Class 2A Poolville by a final score of 58-53. The Monarchs, who advanced four rounds in the postseason last year, struggled to maintain possession of the ball against a scrappy TCA defense that logged 14 steals as a team.
The Eagles were led by Sam Carson’s 19-points, six-assist effort, while Cole Massey also reached double figures with 15 points to go with six rebounds. Carson and Massey combined for six of the Eagles’ eight 3-pointers.
The Eagles (3-2) were hosting winless Fort Worth Carter-Riverside at press time Tuesday.
