In only their second season the Weatherford College Lady Coyotes volleyball team established themselves as one of the top programs in the nation. Coach Kailee May’s team advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament this past week in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Lady Coyotes finished with a 33-6 record that included the championship of both the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference and the Region V championship - the latter tournament played on their own court.
The conference championship was the second consecutive for the Lady Coyotes.
The Lady Coyotes entered the national tournament as the No. 6 seed. They began by disposing of No. 11 Blinn 3-0. After that, however, came three tough losses of 3-0 to No. 3 Miami Dade, 3-0 to No. 2 Northeastern and 3-1 to No. 9 Southern Idaho in the seventh-place match.
Miami Dade advanced to the championship match, falling 3-1 to Florida Southwestern State. Northeastern defeated Salt Lake 3-1 for fifth place.
A pair of Texas teams squared off in the third-place match, with Navarro defeating Trinity 3-0.
