After months of marathon meetings and adjusting to a twice-a-month meeting schedule, Aledo’s City Council is finally getting caught up on the backlog of business for the city. When they met for the only time this month on Thursday, Feb. 22, it took just 23 minutes to get through all the business on the docket for the evening before dismissing into their regular executive session.
The primary focus of the meeting was an update from the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the sidewalk project that will run adjacent to the newly completed Bailey Ranch Road. Korey Coburn with TxDOT said they will begin collecting bids starting on March 5 for the sidewalk that will go from Aledo High School to FM 1187.
Coburn advised the council the project will take approximately four months to complete with minimal traffic disruptions expected. He anticipates the project will begin this summer after the school year is complete.
The council received a petition to have 228.24 acres of the property on the northeast corner of the Rolling Hills addition removed from the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. The council rejected the petition unanimously on the grounds that the petition was brought forth by the property’s previous ownership, and not the current ownership.
The Community News will have more on this story as it develops.
The City of Aledo was slated to have an election on May 4 to vote for representatives in Place 4 and Place 5. Since Nelson Rawls (Place 4) and Summer Jones (Place 5) were unopposed on the ballot, the council approved the ordinance to cancel the election.
With too little business to fill up the docket for two meetings in the month of March, council voted to cancel the March 7 meeting. Council will still have their March 28 meeting as scheduled.
