Two from area win NTHSRA titles

Two competitors from Weatherford came home with championships in the recent North Texas High School Rodeo Association Finals in Saginaw May 19-20.

Reagan High captured the top spot in breakaway roping with 182 points, topping the runner-up by 14 points. In ribbon roping, teammate Taygan Bertsch won first place with 196 points, 35 ahead of runner-up Haiden Smith of Weatherford.

High entered the finals as the No. 5 seed in breakaway following the season's 22 rodeos. Bertsch was seeded second in ribbon roping entering the finals.

Bertsch also finished second in calf roping, in which  he was seeded fourth following the regular season. The title went to Brock's Dylan Barrett, who held onto his top seed from the regular season.

Weatherford had the top four finishers in ribbon roping. Following Bertsch and Smith were Caleb Lewis in third and Clayton Praytor in fourth.

Praytor was also sixth and Lewis was 10th in calf roping. Praytor placed 11th and Smith 12th in Chute Dogging.

Other top-five finishers for Weatherford are Kassidy Klein and Kadyn Klein, who were third and fifth in barrel racing. Jesus Villa placed fifth in bull riding. Kassidy was seeded eighth coming into the finals and Kadyn climbed from a 14th seed.

Kassidy also finished 16th in poles.

The top finishers from Aledo were Gunner McCraw, seventh in chute dogging, and Ashtyn Coufal was 10th in walk-up goat tying.

Weatherford also won the team championship with 10,164 points, with Azle second with 9,107.

Other finalists from the area and their respective finishes are:

Noah Lee, Weatherford, ninth in bull riding.

Sienna Pendergrass, Weatherford, 13th in walk-up goat tying.

Savannah Letson, Weatherford, seventh in poles.
