Track and field: Aledo teams top home meet

The most exciting track and field meets often come down to the final event  — the 4x400-meter relay  — and this was the case at the Aledo Bearcat Relays on March 6 at Tim Buchanan Stadium.

The Aledo Ladycats trailed Justin Northwest by two points entering the 4x400 relay. The quartet of Mykel Murry, Mayden Mitchell, Sofia Brandenburg, and Addison Smith won the event with a time of 4:06.54 to wrestle the meet title from Northwest, finishing with 140 points to 130 for the Lady Texans, and Argyle third with 115.

“The girls did a fantastic job,” Ladycats coach Mike Pinkerton said. “I’m very proud of all the girls.”

The Bearcats won the varsity boys division by a slightly wider margin, 135.5 points to 107.5 for runner-up Northwest with Mansfield, at 71, a distant third.

“It’s always good to win your home meet,” Bearcats coach Andrew Clark said. “Guys ran well. Good to have a week to recover this week. One more meet to fine tune everything before district.”

The Bearcats junior varsity also won, outdistancing second-place Mansfield 186-105. The Ladycats JV placed fourth with 97 points, while Weatherford won with 124.

The Bearcats and Ladycats are back in competition March 27 at Saginaw Chisholm Trail. Then, the District 5-5A Meet is April 2-3 at Saginaw High School.

Weatherford teams compete at Aledo

The Kangaroos and Lady Roos were among the field at the Bearcat Relays. The Kangaroos placed fifth. The Lady Roos finished sixth.

Among the junior varsity team, the Lady Roos topped their field and Kangaroos were seventh.
