Track and field: Aledo teams sweep at Chisholm Trail

Final preparation for district

Posted

In a final warmup for this week’s District 5-5A Meet, Aledo teams swept all four divisions (varsity boys and girls, junior varsity boys and girls) on March 28 at the Saginaw Chisholm Trail Ranger Invitational.

The Bearcats varsity won five gold medals, including two by Tyler Connelly in the 1600-meter and 3200 runs. Adrian Fuller won the 200, Trey Warner the 400, and Luke Schabel captured the 800.

Addison Smith (100, 200) and Micah Neal (1600, 3200) each won a pair of individual gold medals for the Ladycats, with Molly Garrison taking gold in the 800, along with 4x400 relay topping the field.

“As a team, I think we are going into district strong. It’s a much more difficult district with Keller Fossil Ridge (dropped down from Class 6A) this year,” Bearcats coach Andrew Clark said. “They have speed and depth. We are young and will have our hands full bringing home the district title.”

The Bearcats and Ladycats were competing in the District 5-5A Meet at Saginaw High School at press time. The top four finishers in each event will advance to the Area 5/6-5A Meet on April 10 at Tim Buchanan Stadium in Aledo.

“We’re looking pretty strong right now,” Ladycats coach Mike Pinkerton said. “The Chisholm Trail Meet had four teams from district in it and winning all four divisions is a great feeling heading into district.”

Along with Aledo and host Chisholm Trail, Saginaw and Brewer were also competing.
