TCA warms up for state

Competes at SAGU event

In a warmup for the upcoming Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools postseason, the Willow Park Trinity Christian runners competed in the Southwestern Assemblies of God Private School State Warmup meet at the Buff in Fort Worth on Saturday, Oct. 7.

Gracee Whiteaker had the top finish for TCA, finishing fourth in the varsity girls division. She posted a time of 12 minutes, 18.25 seconds over the 3200-meter course.

Emma Saadeh finished 11th for the Lady Eagles, clocking a 12:42.21.

The leading runner for the Eagles was Wilson Winchester. He was 12th over the 5-kilometer course with a time of 17:37.57.

Whiteaker and Winchester both competed in the TAPPS Class 4A State Meet last season. She was fourth among the girls he was 26th among the boys as their teams finished 10th and 13, respectively.

They are the only returning runners who competed at state last season and both have improved greatly the clockings they posted at state in 2022. Whiteaker’s time at state was 12:49.5 and Winchester came home with an 18:50.3.

Other Lady Eagles and their respective finishes this past Saturday were Brooklyn Mathieson, 27th; Madison Clark, 46th; and Ellery Wright, 73rd.

Also running for the Eagles in the SAGU Meet were Marshall Hughes, 90th; Michael Spillers, 95th; Brandon Spraight, 107th; and Samuel Snowden, 134th.

The men’s race had 106 entries and the women had 102.

The TAPPS State Meet will be held Oct. 30 at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco.
