His time at FWC included a football state championship, along with numerous playoff appearances that included regional finals, state semifinals, and district championships.
He served as a head coach at the Tom Hillary Private School All-Star game in 2012 and led FWC to four state runner-up finishes in track and field.
Smiley has also served as athletic director in the public school system at Alvord and Valley View High Schools.
A three-year team captain at Midwestern State, he was named all-conference at defensive back and was a three-time academic all-conference selection.

TCA head football coach appointed
“TCA is excited to announce Scott Campbell as our new head football coach at TCA. Coach Campbell was one of over 50 applicants to apply for this position, and after careful consideration and much prayer, we believe coach Campbell embodies the character, desire, knowledge, passion, experience, and love for Christ that is necessary to lead our Eagles football program,” Smiley said.
Campbell is already in place, and leading the spring football and conditioning program at TCA.
Campbell has coaching in his blood. He grew up watching his father coach at the collegiate level and developed a passion and desire that stemmed from cheering on his dad at stops such as Texas A&M and Texas Tech. According to Campbell, his dad was his role model and a big reason he is coaching today and using athletics as a tool to point young people to Jesus.
“Coach Campbell brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our athletic program,” Smiley said.
A graduate at Texas A&M and post-graduate at Texas Tech, Campbell has 19 years of coaching experience, six of those serving as athletic director and head football at both Luling and Clyde High Schools. As a head football coach, his accomplishments include playoff appearances in five of six seasons, two district titles, two District Coach of the Year honors, as well as coaching in several Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star games.
He also had offensive coordinator roles at Flower Mound and Boerne High Schools, and was the special teams coordinator at Frenship High School.
“Far above his coaching accomplishments, and what excites us the most, though, is his walk with the Lord and perspective he places on life. He loves Jesus and puts his faith first, followed by family second in all he does,” Smiley said.
Campbell and his wife of 10 years, have two children, Conway, age nine, and Cambry, age six. They are active members of the First Baptist Church in Stephenville.
In addition to being a husband, dad, and coach, Campbell finds time to serve in many affiliations and associations. He is a publications committee member and contributing writer for Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, an FCA campus sponsor and Summer Conference Huddle Leader, the Founder and Director of Press Box Perspective Annual Coaches Clinic, and was involved in the Texas High School Coaches Association R.O.C.K. mentor program.
