Swimming: Wild strong again at Ridglea Meet

Posted

The Weatherford Wild swim team continued its successful summer with a strong performance in a meet hosted by Ridglea Pool Association on June 21 in Fort Worth.

The meet was part of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Region IV competition. It was the Wild’s second meet in which they competed, the first being their own on June 7.

And, just as they did at home, the Wild had a solid showing, capturing 59 medals (30 males, 29 females). This included 16 gold (12 males, 4 females), 16 silver (10 males, 6 females) and 27 bronze (8 males, 19 females).

The gold medals were spread out among a dozen different swimmers. Leading the Wild was Karmyn Chaires, who won three golds in the Girls 11-12 age group. For the boys/men, Cullen Costello won two in the 13-14 division and Wild coach Matt Williams won two in the 25-39 division.

The Wild are set to compete in the TAAF Region IV Meet on July 13-14 in Arlington. From there, qualifiers will advance to the TAAF Summer Games of Texas in Bryan/College Station July 31-Aug. 3.
