Gruber sets two school records

Posted

Behind a pair of record-setting performances from Jacqueline Gruber, the Aledo High School swim team finished third overall in the Northwest ISD Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Northwest ISD Natatorium.

Both the girls and boys teams placed third in their respective divisions, while the teams combined for third overall.

Gruber and Haley Roberson each won three gold medals. They each won a pair of individual events and were part of a winning relay.

Gruber, in fact, set two school records, winning the 200-yard freestyle in one minute, 54.21 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 52.46 seconds.

Porter Lane had a pair of top-three finishes to lead the boys, including winning one event.

The meet featured 19 of the top Class 5A teams in Texas.

“This meet was a great indicator for where we stand against a lot of strong 5A programs we’ll come up against at district and regionals - in the pool we’ll race districts at,” Aledo coach Meghan Roberson said.

“There were strong swims across the lineup. Our upperclassmen had their first chance to see where they’re really at at this point in the season. We tried out some new events with our younger athletes and really pushed them at their first major competitive high school meet. They rose to the challenge against some fast upperclassmen.

“This meet is an important one that gives us a guide to know the work we have to put in to be successful at the end of the season.”

The Aledo teams will next compete in the Haunted Invitational at Wilkerson-Greines Activities Center in Fort Worth on Oct. 28.
