Stock show staff shares humor for luncheon

Guests to the annual Careity Foundation Cancer Survivor Luncheon were treated to uproarious laughter, rodeo tickets, and special Careity gift bags January 28 during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s “Stock Show Goes Pink” day at the rodeo.

“We wanted to create a special time for cancer survivors in this community and this one really scored big,” said Careity Foundation Co-Founder and CEO Lyn Walsh. “Our good friend, amazing ventriloquist and former Miss Texas Gloria Gilbert-Barron, with her friend Homer, as well as the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo’s very own Jarred Hammer really brought the house down. Jarred wasn’t just an incredible sport for volunteering to participate but he took his role seriously as he added some real zest to his performance.”

Walsh noted that attendees included longtime survivors as well as others who are new into their journey. The luncheon, which began with Co-Founder Beverly Branch performing “The Lord’s Prayer,” a cappella, served as a moment for guests to leave their anxieties, enjoy meeting people and concentrate on healing.

Careity exists to provide direct care that saves lives, gives hope, eases pain, and allows cancer patients and families to focus on healing.

Half of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s “Stock Show Goes Pink,” rodeo performance ticket sales and grounds passes will benefit Careity Foundation again in 2026.
