WC alum pitches in World Series
Weatherford College alumnus Ryan Brasier pitched in the World Series at Yankee Stadium in New York in Game 3. The Dodger reliever allowed no hits and no runs while striking out two in his inning out of the bullpen, helping Los Angeles take a 3-0 lead in games.
Brasier was drafted out of WC in 2007 and has played in the majors for the Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox and now the Dodgers.
Coyotes compete in NJCAA Preview
The Weatherford College men’s golf team competed at the NJCAA National Preview in a field that included eight of the top 10 teams in the nation. The tournament was played at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas, the site of this year’s national tournament to be held in May.
After the first two rounds, the No. 9 Coyotes were sitting in fourth place out of 15 teams, shooting 14 over in the first round and 19 over in the second. But a third round of 25 over knocked WC down to a ninth-place finish.
Host team Hutchinson Community College (No. 3 in the nation) won the tournament, 20 strokes ahead of second place Western Texas College (No. 10).
WC’s Ethan Armendarez climbed nine spots in the final round to finish tied for 13th individually. Armendarez shot 76-78-74 over the three rounds.
Aledo's Braylan Mahanay finished tied for 15th (74-74-81).
McClellan sees first game action
Former Aledo Bearcat and Alabama Crimson Tide football player Jase McClellan saw his first NFL regular-season action recently in the Atlanta Falcons' 34-14 loss to Seattle. He carried five times for 17 yards.
Weatherford Hall eighth grade vs. Joshua Nichols
A team won 43-12 for a third-place finish in the Lone Star 8.
B team tied 14-14. Player of the Game: Hunter Smith, two interceptions on defense, two touchdown passes on offense.
Weatherford freshmen vs. Mansfield Lake Ridge
Freshmen A won 48-18, improving to 7-1. Players of the Game: Aiden Barrett and Cole Schrantz.
Freshman Blue won 34-14. Player of the Game: Devin Walls.
Weatherford Hall seventh grade vs. Joshua Nichols
A team won 22-12. Defensive Player of the Game: Kaden Almquist, Offensive Players of the Game: Carlito Richards and Stran Mask, Maple Syrup Offensive Lineman of the Game: Steven Marquez.
Tison seventh grade vs. Joshua Loflin
A team won 32-8. Players of the Game: Whole team.
B team won 40-0. Players of the Game: Whole team.
WHS all-district honors
Toni Canada of the Weatherford Lady Roos was named second-team All-District 3-6A for her play in singles. She was also honored, with teammate Landrey Hebbe as first-team picks in girls doubles.
Also, Lydia Nader and Mylee Herron were named first-team all-district in girls doubles, as were Brynli Ruthesell and Dayla Dromgoole. Ruthesell and Nader, along with Maiah Gal, were honorable mentions in girls singles.
Weatherford Hall vs. Weatherford Tison
Hall won 17-13.
Players of the Match for Tison were Brady Poston and Juan Gomez for winning their doubles match 7-5, Landon Johnson for winning his singles match 6-3, and Landri Benton and Anna Casey for winning their doubles match 6-3.
Hall Players of the Match were Mattingly Bristow and Skye Herrera. Bristow won her doubles 6-1, and her singles 6-0, 7-6 (7-1). Herrera won her doubles 6-1, and her singles 6-4, 6-1.
AMS district tournament finishes
Acton Middle School seventh-grade B won its district championship. Also:
Seventh grade A team third place.
Eighth grade A and B teams both second place.
AMS sweeps Kennedale
Acton Middle School won all six of its matches against Kennedale recently.
Seventh grade: A team 25-13, 25-20; B team 25-18, 25-18; C team 25-6, 25-7.
Eighth grade: A team 25-10, 25-9; B team 25-10, 25-8; C team 25-4, 25-10.
TCA celebrates Senior Night
The Willow Park Trinity Christian Academy Lady Eagles swept Kingdom Collegiate Academy 3-0 on Senior Night recently. The game was nondistrict, but TCA is 6-2 in TAPPS 4A District 1, tied for second.
Six seniors were recognized, middle blocker Micah Breisch, defensive specialist Rylie Reeder, outside hitter/right side hitter Addison Shoppach, setter Anna Nelson, libero JulieAnne Hart and manager Avery Tiwater.

Lady Coyotes win 14th straight
The No. 6 Weatherford College volleyball team won their 14th straight match with their 15th sweep of the season recently over North Central Texas College at the Betty Jo Graber Athletic Center.
WC had secured at least a share of the conference title. The Saturday win clinched the outright title in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
The first set was hard-fought, with WC winning 25-21. Weatherford won the second set 25-15 and the third 25-10.
Weronika Urbanska led the team in kills with 13 and Gabriela Maldonado added 12.
Lorena Gomez tallied 21 assists and Victoria Sanchez had 13.
Urbanska and Kiana Souza turned in 13 digs apiece.
WC has the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region V Tournament locked up. The regional tournament is in Roswell, New Mexico, Nov. 7-9, hosted by No. 3 New Mexico Military Institute.
