BASEBALL

Parker County teams state-ranked
The Aledo Bearcats and Brock Eagles are once again ranked in the top 10 in their respective classifications by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association as the week began. Aledo (12-4 at the start of the week) is No. 7 in Class 5A and Brock (11-1) is No. 3 in Class 4A.
 
TCA off to .500 start
Through their first eight games of the 2025 season, the Trinity Christian Academy Eagles are 4-4 overall and 1-2 in TAPPS Division III District 1. They were hosting district leader Lake Country Christian at press time and visit public school Class 6A Grand Prairie Saturday, March 29 at 2 p.m.

BASKETBALL

WC teams advance to regionals
The Weatherford College Coyotes and Lady Coyotes each qualified for the NJCAA Region V Tournament in Waco recently. The Coyotes won their opening game in the tourney, defeating No. 18 nationally ranked Midland College 58-56 on a buzzer beater basket before falling 72-57 to No. 8 South Plains to end the season at 19-12.
The Lady Coyotes (20-11) made their first postseason appearance in three years and won the most games for the program in five years. They fell in the regional opener to No. 3 New Mexico Junior College.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lady Roos’ season comes to surprising end
The Weatherford Lady Kangaroos, formerly the No. 1 team in the state in Class 6A, saw their season come to a surprising end with a 2-0 loss to Keller Central (15-6-1) in their bidistrict contest on March 21.
The Lady Roos finished with a 16-2-2 overall record and were second in District 3-6A with a 9-1-2 mark. They outscored their opponents 60-5 and posted 17 shutouts, including 14 consecutive blankings to open the season.

GOLF

Blair competes in NTPGA Junior event
Grayson Blair of Weatherford competed in the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Tournament at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Carrollton recently. He posted a score of 106 to place sixth in the Boys 15-18 age group.
 
Shamrock Shootout
The Weatherford Lady Roos won the Shamrock Shootout at Cross Timbers Golf Course in Azle on March 18. Freshman Ava Cordary was second individually, shooting an 85.
The Kangaroos placed third, with Freshman Madden Ward winning the individual title with a 74.

RODEO

Area competitors among NTHSRA leaders

Weatherford’s Shane McCulloch is third in team roping-header and sixth in team roping-heeler. In those same two events, Brock’s Walker Parkey is second in heeler and sixth in header.

Also from Parker County:

  • Millsap’s Cainlee Dale leads team roping-header and is seventh in breakaway roping.
  • Weatherford’s Cole Lewis is 10th in calf roping.
  • Brock’s Colt Mitchell is seventh in chute dogging.
  • Aledo’s Burton Caldwell is ninth in poles.

SOFTBALL

Ladycats, Lady Eagles state-ranked
Two Parker County teams are among the top 10 in their respective classifications, according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association. The Aledo Ladycats (16-3 starting the week) are No. 12 in Class 5A and the Brock Lady Eagles (17-0-2) are No. 1 in Class 4A.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Bearcats alum qualifies for NCAA vaulting
Former Aledo Bearcat Sean Gribble is having a standout freshman season at Texas Tech. He qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Gribble has the fifth best vault in America at 5.65 meters, or more than 18.5 feet.
