Antone attempting another comeback
Former Weatherford College baseball player Tejay Antone, who has faced three Tommy John surgeries, is attempting yet another comeback. He is currently under contract with the Cincinnati Reds and is beginning rehab.
He announced on social media that he will begin his rehab assignment at High-A Dayton. Antone has undergone Tommy John surgery in 2017, 2021, and 2024.
Antone, who attended Mansfield Legacy High School, started his college career at TCU before transferring to Weatherford College. He posted a 7-6 record with a 2.88 ERA in 2014 for the Coyotes before being drafted by the Reds.
In his limited action for Cincinnati he has a 2-3 record with a 2.47 ERA and 96 strikeouts.
Area duo compete in NTPGA Junior championship event
A pair of local young golfers finished in the top 10 of their respective divisions as the North Texas PGA Junior Golf Tour summer session wrapped up recently with the Ewing Automotive Summer Series Championship at Firewheel Golf Course in Garland.
In the Girls 15-18 Medalist Division, Ava Cordary of Hudson Oaks placed seventh. She posted a 36-hole total of 165 with rounds of 78 and 87 on the par-70 course.
In the Boys 9-10 Prep Division, Christian Ziegler of Aledo was also seventh. He shot a 74 over 18 holes.
Stars & Strides Tournament
Sugartree Golf Club will host the Stars & Strides Stables Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 12. The four-player scramble will feature two flights with registration at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Both flights will receive lunch. Cost to enter is $85 per person or $340 per team.
Stars & Strides gives riders with disabilities a place to learn and become competitive equestrians.

Ladycats subvarsity sweeps Keller
Not only was it a good night for the varsity Ladycats, who defeated Keller 3-1 to begin the season on Aug. 11, but it was also a program sweep. The freshman B won 2-0, freshman A won 2-0, and the junior varsity rallied for a 2-1 victory.
Lady Roos begin season strong
The Weatherford Lady Roos got the 2025 volleyball season underway with a 3-1 win over visiting Cleburne on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
The sub-varsity teams also defeated Cleburne, making it a sweep. Freshman Player of the Game is Berkeley O’Neil and junior varsity POG is Mia Harris.
Coyotes top conference preseason poll
The Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference recently released its 2025 volleyball coaches’ preseason poll, with Weatherford College landing the number one spot.
Going 14-0 in conference and 32-8 overall for the 2024 season, the WC volleyball team is no stranger to being in the spotlight. The Coyotes won the conference title in each of the program’s first three years alongside two consecutive years of national tournament appearances.
Fife takes helm of Weatherford Christian varsity
Dylan Fife is the new varsity volleyball coach of the Lady Lions. Originally from Haltom City, he brings over 15 years of coaching experience, including time at Liberty Christian and in public schools across the DFW area.
Fife is also a former collegiate basketball player.
