The Western Texas College softball team defeated Weatherford College 3-2 in a regional tournament elimination game Thursday, May 8 in Odessa, eliminating the Coyotes from the postseason and ending their 2020 campaign.

The Coyotes, ranked No. 20 in the country, ended their season with a 33-15 overall record. They dropped their first-round game in the regional tournament to Odessa College, 5-1, a day earlier.

In the loss against Western Texas, the game was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth inning when WTC put up two runs. WC answered with a run in the top of the sixth, but the Westerners held on for the win.

Alexah Reyes went 3-for-3 with one RBI for the Coyotes. Janae Trojacek was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Isabella Alosi had a 2-for-3 performance.

WC pitcher Sarah Hanf gave up six hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out four. Lindsey Oliver allowed no hits and no runs with one walk and two strikeouts over two and one third innings in relief.

Against Odessa, after the game was scoreless for the first couple of innings, WC dropped the tie on a grand slam from Mason Barclay, giving Odessa the 4-0 lead.

Despite a sacrifice fly from Hannah Bartles in the top of the fifth, the Coyotes couldn't bridge the 5-1 gap that ultimately sealed the game for the Wranglers.
