Rosser leads Ladycats by Rider

District opener

Posted

The Ladycats’ trip to Wichita Falls Rider on Tuesday, March 5, couldn’t have gone any better. Taylor McKean accounted for 14 of the 15 Lady Raiders outs with strikeouts.

While Aledo was raking at the plate, McKean was dealing on the mound. The junior hurler for the Ladycats threw a perfect game, striking out all but one of the Lady Raiders she faced.

Meanwhile, Delaney Rosser hit a home run in the first inning, along with a pair of triples in the later innings to put five runs across the plate for Aledo.

Aledo (16-2 overall, 1-0 in district) took little time getting on the board following the long bus ride to Wichita Falls. In her first at-bat Rosser smashed a solo shot over the fence in center field to give the Ladycats the early advantage.

Following the homer, Ana Flores and Kyleigh Pawlak both picked up a free ticket aboard the basepath. With two runners aboard and two outs, Kennis Marx sent a soaring shot sailing over the left-field fence to give the Ladycats a 4-0 cushion after the top of the first.

The Ladycats added a pair of runs in the top of the second innings after Rosser hit her first triple of the game. They added another in the top of the third to take a 7-0 lead midway through the contest.

When the top of the fourth inning started, Rosser throttled her third triple of the game, this time to right field.

With Rosser standing on third, Aledo began playing a proverbial game of musical chairs. Five Ladycats drew walks and Maddy Flora earned her way aboard the hard way after being hit by a pitch. Jordan Edington hit a base-clearing double to put the Ladycats up 15-0 through their first four trips to the plate.

Aledo went on to add a pair of extra runs in the top of the fifth before the run rule was put into effect at the conclusion of the fifth inning.

Tuesday’s dominant district opener comes on the heels of a 3-0 performance against Whitehouse, Garland, and Mesquite Horn over the weekend in the rain-shortened Mesquite Tournament. While on the road, Aledo outscored opponents 28-2 as they prepared to enter the district portion of their schedule.

The Ladycats return to action on Friday, Mar. 8, when they host the Lady Texans of Northwest at Ladycat Field to start off spring break. First pitch is slated for 6:30 pm.
