Roos win 3-6A title, girls second

Both advance to regionals

The Weatherford Kangaroos edged Fort Worth Paschal for the District 3-6A cross country championship at The Buff in Fort Worth on Friday, Oct. 13. Meanwhile, the Lady Roos placed second behind Boswell in their division.

The Kangaroos scored 46 points, while Paschal tallied 52. The Lady Roos, with 35 points, trailed only Boswell’s 25.

Both Weatherford teams now advance to the Class 6A Region I Meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Tuesday, Oct. 24. From there, the top four teams and top 10 runners not on those teams will advance to state in Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Individually, Rayla Castillo of the Lady Roos had the highest finish of  all Weatherford runners. She ran the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 03.02 seconds to place second. Freshman Remington Boone was right behind in third, clocking a 19:04.10.

For the boys, Rafael Ordonez led the way with a fourth-place finish in 17:29.61.

The Weatherford junior varsity boys and girls also won district. The boys nearly had a perfect score, finishing with 16 points that included finishing first through fourth, along with a sixth place individually.

Jett Hendrix of the JV boys won district with a time of 18:38.69.
