Rangers sign former WC standout

Posted

Former Weatherford College catcher Cal Stark has signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers.

Stark was the University of Tennessee’s starting catcher this past season as the Volunteers won the College World Series championship. He hit 11 home runs and 30 RBI along with a .993 fielding percentage in his senior campaign.

The 6-1-Farragut (Tennessee) High School graduate was an all-region and all-conference honoree for the Coyotes in 2022, hitting .380 with 42 runs scored, 16 doubles, nine home runs, and 42 RBI. Although he attended high school in Tennessee, Stark spent most of his childhood in Arlington.

Stark is the fifth player with WC ties to enter professional baseball this year. The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted 2024 Coyote Cody Morse and the San Diego Padres selected teammate Kasen Wells; WC alumnus Owen Woodward was drafted by the New York Mets out of the University of Houston and Austin Green of Texas Tech went to the New York Yankees.
