Racquetcats smash Hornets

Remain undefeated

In their second District 5-5A match, the Aledo varsity tennis team (11-0, 2-0 in district) dominated Azle, winning all of the matches played at their home courts on Tuesday, Aug. 29, for an overall score of 22-0.

Winning in girls doubles were line 1 Kenley Germany and Bryanna Orr, 6-3, 6-2; line 2 Elli Kate Bussmeir and Patrice Loftin, 6-2, 6-0; and line 3 Eleanor Jack and Sydney Byrd won their first set 6-1, narrowly lost the second set 6-7 with a 5-7 tiebreaker, but won the match with an 11-9 tie-break score.

In boys doubles, line 1 Craig Mason and Scott Mason lost the first set 3-6, but battled back to win the second set 6-3 and the tie-breaker 10-8. Line 2 Jacob Heckathorn and Francois Britz won 6-4, 6-1 and line 3 Will Beyer and Paxton Psencik won 6-2, 6-1.  

The mixed doubles pair of Benjamin Farmer and Lila Satterfield won 6-3, 6-1.

With wins in all seven doubles matches, Aledo only needed to win three singles matches to claim victory. Finishing up first for the overall win was girls line 2 Germany with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Also, girls line 3 Bussmeir won 6-0, 6-1; boys line 4 Beyer swept 6-0, 6-0 and boys line 5 Heckathorn won 6-1, 6-1.

Switching to pro-sets, Aledo continued to win: girls line 1 Orr, 8-1; line 4 Satterfield, 8-4; line 5 Gracie Heydman, 9-7; line 6 Byrd, 8-2.  boys line 1 C. Mason, 8-5; line 2 Farmer, 8-6; line 3 S. Mason, 8-4; and line 6 Britz, 8-3.

Additional winning matches were by Ibrahim Choudhry and Natalie Nawrocki in mixed doubles, 8-1; girls singles, Loftin, 8-1; and boys singles, Ben Kurth, 8-1, and Casen Freeland, 8-2.

Next up is Brewer High School on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Brewer, with the team looking  to continue its undefeated streak.
