Six lifters to compete

Posted

Powerlifting coach and Trinity Christian Academy assistant athletic director Perry Myers is exhilarated with the team’s success — not just because of the Eagles’ accomplishments. but because in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association, schools of all types compete equally.

“That [weight] bar doesn’t care who is pushing it or pulling it, so I am over the moon with the amount of success that we have had in our short three-year time,” the coach explained. “We are one of very few private schools that compete in powerlifting.  Powerlifting is one of the rare opportunities in which private schools, public schools, charter schools all compete for regional and state recognition in the same sport.”

This is a repeat performance for seniors Dylan Kelly and Addison Shoppach. Kelly, a regional record holder for the 114 lb. class deadlift, is a two-time regional qualifier, and Shoppach, in the 165 lb. class, is a three-time qualifier.

Freshman Tristan Garcia, senior Rylie Reeder, senior Anna Nelson and sophomore Molly Speaks also made the regional squad.
