Entering the Class 5A playoffs as District 6-5A's top seed, the state-ranked No. 10 Aledo Ladycats will face Denison at 7 p.m. today at Denton High School in a Region I bi-district playoff match.
The Ladycats, co-champions of 6-5A, bring a 35-8 record into the match. Denison, at 24-13, is the fourth-place team from District 5-5A.
Ladycats head coach Kathy Goings said playing at a high level on defense is the first priority in advancing in the playoffs.
"Our team is doing better on defense," Goings said, "but I think as we continue this playoff run we are going to have to continue to tighten our defense.
"Our front row is doing much better on blocking; and they are hitting the ball extremely well right now."
Goings feels having a three-year starter at setter in senior Erin Weiss is a distinct advantage in the playoffs.
"Erin is doing a great job moving the ball faster and spreading it out on the offensive side," Goings said. "She is also doing a good job defensively."
The winner of the match will advance to the area round and face the winner of the Western Hills/Richland bi-district match.
