Former Willow Park Mayor Brad Johnson now lives in Kerrville, and he has provided some first-hand information from that flood area. The following descriptions and photos are from him:
The attached were taken by me from the backyard of our home. We are just south of the Kerrville city limits between Kerrville and Center Point. The cypress trees along the river are around 80’ tall.
Bridge in “downtown” Kerrville overlooking Louis Hayes park. I’ve seen local emergency services, DPS, Game Wardens and several military helicopters. Not sure what branch or maybe National Guard.
13 confirmed dead and over twenty girls are missing from a Christian summer camp in Hunt River level was at 7 ft at midnight and at 4AM it was at 29 ft. Flooding continued as the river moved downstream. It all started around cities of Hunt and Ingram and as rain and river surge then moved thru kerrville then downstream through Center Point and Comfort. Major flooding there also. Then the flooding river continued to Canyon Lake.
Surge also in the Medina River causing major flooding in Medina and into Bandera. Good news is canyon lake was so dry it will take a bulk of the water and shouldn’t be a huge surge past the lake. Looking at about 12” of rain in the last 18 hrs.
Rain has slowed dramatically but is predicted to be back tonight and into Saturday morning.
Nobody can be prepared for something of this magnitude. We have had this home in the family since 1970 and this even surpassed the historic flood in 1987.
