Ladycats win at A&M

First time at elite event

Posted

The Aledo cross county teams are used to running long distances. Last week they traveled three hours via vehicle - and then ran a long distance - to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational.

The Ladycats won the varsity girls division, scoring 157 points to 190 for runner-up Fredericksburg. The Bearcats finished 10th in the varsity boys division.

The Ladycats were led by Micah Neal, who placed eighth individually with a time of 19 minutes, 11.1 seconds over the 5K course. Jack Fink topped the Bearcat runners with a time of 16:08.08.

The competition was held after Aledo teams took the previous week off.

"It was another great week for Aledo cross country!" said an excited coach Mike Pinkerton. "It was an incredible day, with much lower temperatures during the races.  Both teams competed extremely well, given this was the first time the cross country teams have competed in this meet. Everyone ran very good times."

Saturday morning, Sept. 16, the junior varsity teams competed in the Paschal Invitational. In wet and muddy conditions, the girls finished 17th and the boys were 19th.

"Once again, everyone ran good times in the mud," Pinkerton said.

Saturday, the varsity will get a sneak peak at the course on which the state meet is held as they will run in the Hoka/McNeil Invitational in Round Rock. The JV squads will compete in the Birdville Flyin’ Hawk Invitational.

"Very proud of all of these runners, as they continue to improve weekly," Pinkerton said.
