Ladycats win another close meet

Varsity crowds out Crowley

Posted

For a second consecutive meet the Aledo Ladycats came away with a close victory as they edged Crowley for the championship of the Joshua Owls Relays on Friday, March 24.

Aledo’s varsity scored 189 points to 183 for the Lady Eagles. Crowley won the junior varsity competition, scoring 197 to 148 for Aledo.

“The competition is great! These girls are really working hard and competing,” head coach Mike Pinkerton said. “Everything is coming together at the right time, with two weeks until district. After Thursday, we will start tapering off a bit, to make sure they are fresh and ready to go for district.”

The Ladycats and Bearcats were hosting their second meet of the season at press time Thursday and will host the District 5-5A Meet on April 12-13.

Also, on Friday and Saturday, Lauren St. Peters will compete in the shot put and discus at the prestigious Texas Relays at the University of Texas in Austin.

Aledo won six gold medals at Joshua, led by Sofia Brandenburg taking first place in the 800-meter and 1600 runs. Sarah Tillotson won the 300 hurdles and ran a leg of the winning 1600 relay (with Jadyn Rowls, Mykel Murry and Addison Smith).

Elizabeth Griffin won gold in the 3200 and Taylor Hindman captured the pole vault. Maggie Kilburn actually cleared the same height as Hindman, but Hindman won the tiebreaker.
