Ladycats sweep Granbury for eighth district win

Aledo completed a sweep of Granbury on Friday, Oct. 2, in its home match, winning 25-15, 25-15, 25-16.

The Ladycats only trailed twice during the match.

In the first set, the Ladycats started with a 7-2 run into the first timeout of the set. They increased their lead to as large as eight, pushing the lead to 19-11. They closed out the Lady Pirates with a 6-4 run to end the first set.

In the second set, Aledo quickly scored four straight points to start play and led 8-2 at the first timeout. Granbury cut the Aledo lead to four, at 16-12, A 9-3 run propelled Aledo to winning Set 2 with the same exact score as Set 1.

In Set 3 the Ladycats rode a fast 7-1 start into the first timeout, and a 9-2 lead into the second. The Lady Pirates trimmed the deficit to one at 14-13, but the Ladycats pulled away, finishing off the set and match with an 11-3 run.

Aledo head coach Claire Gay credited the Lady Pirates for their play during the match.

“Granbury, I would say, gave us a great match,” Gay said. “They had a lot of long rallies, were going back and forth a couple of times, and for that, we’re very grateful. You want to play good teams that’ll give you the ball back and make you work for your points, and they did just that tonight.”

Outside hitter Kaelee Berkley led Aledo in kills with 16. Aledo combined for five aces, with libero Karsyn Evans finishing with the most with three. Evans also led the team in digs with 33. Setter Harper Harbuck finished with a team-high 24 assists. As a team, Aledo combined for eight blocks.

Aledo downs Martin

Aledo defeated Arlington Martin in a sweep for the second time this season Tuesday, Oct. 6, 25-19, 25-23, 25-18.

Outside hitter Kaelee Berkley finished with 15 kills, leading the team. Aledo combined for five aces and 40 assists, with libero Karsyn Evans and setter Harper Harbuck leading the team with two aces and 28 assists, respectively. Evans also finished with a team-high 26 digs. As a team, Aledo combined for 15 blocks.

With the win, the Ladycats improved to 9-0 in district play and 29-7 overall. The Ladycats’ next match will be Friday, Oct. 9, at home against Arlington Bowie.
