With the regular season winding to a close, the Aledo Ladycats continued to dominate their opponents over the past week. Aledo defeated Northwest 47-28 on Friday, Jan. 19, before subjecting Saginaw to a 32-point drumming on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

The 58-26 mauling over the Lady Rough Riders extended Aledo’s (25-8 overall, 8-1 in districts) win streak to five games as they sit in second place in the District 5-5A standings.

Aledo’s defense has been the difference maker in the last two victories. Pressure at the opposing end of the floor has led to mistakes - mistakes the Ladycats have become experts at capitalizing on.

On Tuesday, Aledo held the Lady Rough Riders to just 15 points through three quarters of play.

Meanwhile, the offense is running with the efficiency of a Swiss watch. The Ladycats are scoring on time, every time. Their versatility and effectiveness with the offense is giving them the means to convert the scoring opportunities afforded by the stout defensive play at the other end of the floor.

On Tuesday, Kinley Elms became the primary scoring option for the Ladycats down in the post. The 6-foot-1 junior scored 20 points to lead all scoring in the game.

Elizabeth Griffin was a picture of consistency as she racked up a dozen points of her own against both Northwest and Saginaw.

The Ladycats will take Friday off this week before hosting Brewer’s Lady Bears on Tuesday, Jan. 30, in a game that could decide the league championship. Brewer is one game ahead of Aledo in the district standings and handed the Ladycats their only district loss, 59-46 in White Settlement on Jan. 5.

Tuesday’s game will start at 6:15 p.m.
