Ladycats second at Northwest

Posted

In a field that included some of the top programs around, the Aledo Ladycats placed second in the always-tough Northwest Texan Invitational this past Friday, March 3, in Justin.

Aledo scored 128 points, trailing only Northwest Eaton with 140.

“That was a very tough meet. I am so proud of the girls for their performance,” coach Mike Pinkerton said. “The competition there was about as good as it gets and our girls did fantastic.

“Best of all, we are a young team and are only going to keep getting better.”

The Ladycats got a pair of gold medals from freshman Sofia Brandenburg, who took first place in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs, running a personal-best time in each. Also, junior Lauren St. Peters won gold in both the shot put and discus and junior Taylor Hindman took the top spot in pole vault.

Aledo also captured three silver medals and four bronze medals.

The Ladycats bested two fellow teams from District 5-5A as Denton Ryan was third with 100 points and Northwest was fourth with 93.

The Ladycats were competing in their own Bearcat Relays at press time.
