After a couple of close victories in their previous two meets, the Aledo Ladycats left little to question in their own meet on March 30, winning the Aledo Meet at Bearcat Stadium by more than 100 points over runner-up Weatherford.
The Ladycats got a pair of gold medal performances from Sofia Brandenburg in the 800- and 1600-meter runs. Also, Addison Smith won the 200 and 400 events. Savannah Thompson was also a double winner individually in the 100 hurdles and triple jump.
Smith also ran a leg of the winning 1600 relay, along with Mykel Murry, Emery Thompson and Sarah Tillotson, who also won the 300 hurdles.
The Ladycats also got a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault from Taylor Hindman, Maggie Kilburn and Ansil Lopez.
“The team is getting better with each meet. District, however, will be extremely tough. There are several very talented teams in our district,” coach Mike Pinkerton said. “We will have to be ready and on our ‘A game.’ I have no doubt that these girls will give everything they have.”
Aledo will host the District 5-5A Meet on Wednesday-Thursday, April 12-13. The top four finishers in each event will qualify for area competition at Justin Northwest April 21.
