Ladycats rake in numerous all-district honors

Aledo nabs five superlatives in dominant season

For the third time in four years, the Aledo Ladycats softball team punched its ticket to Austin for the state tournament. As a result, Aledo (35-4, 12-0) received significant recognition on the 2024 All-District 5-5A Team.

Aledo’s selections were headlined by MVP Brenlee Gonzales, a senior and Texas Tech commit, who was a force on the mound with a 0.81 ERA and 173 strikeouts across 112.2 innings pitched. Standout junior Taylor McKean was selected as the Co-Pitcher of the Year with 168 strikeouts across 92.2 innings while underclassman Jordyn Edington was selected as Newcomer of the Year. 

Kennis Marx was named as the district’s Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Heather Myers and her staff were recognized as the top coaching staff.

Ana Flores led the first team selections for Aledo after she led the team with a .427 batting average, 10 home runs and 50 RBI. Addie Perry and Delaney Rosser joined Flores with first-team honors, with Perry leading the team with 47 runs scored.

Marina Taveras, who was named an all-state alternate, led Aledo’s second-team selections while Kyleigh Pawlak and Austyn Marriage also earned the same level of recognition. Maddy Flora and Gracie Jones rounded out Aledo’s all-district recipients as honorable mention selections.

Impressively, Aledo had 17 players named academic all-district for excellence in the classroom. Those players were Edington, Flora, Flores, Gonzales, Lily Heckathorn, Marriage, Kennis Marx, Rylee Marx, Breleigh Mayer, Taylor McKenzie, McKean, Pawlak, Rosser and Taveras.
