Ladycats pounce on Springtown

Posted

In their final pre-district match of the season, Aledo’s girls varsity soccer team put forth their best offensive showing of the year. The Ladycats (3-4-1) pounced on the visiting Springtown Lady Porcupines, racking up a 9-1 win on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Aledo outpaced the Porcupines from the beginning of the match. The Ladycat offense dominated the action, rarely allowing Springtown to sneak the ball back across midfield. In the first half, Aledo scored four goals to the one goal for Springtown.

Coming out for the second half with a staggering three-goal lead, the Ladycats refused to coast for the final 40 minutes of play. Instead, they exceeded their offensive output from the first half, tacking on five more goals.

After allowing one score in the first half, goalkeeper Kaitlyn Shiller locked down her goal with three saves to her credit throughout the match.

Emery Thompson, Faith Bartlett, and Georgia Zirbser all put in a pair of goals for the Ladycats to lead the offensive onslaught for Aledo.

Freshman Allyson Weimer scored a goal of her own while accounting for four assists on the night. Emaree Gibson scored a goal, as well, while also serving up three assists.

Lillie Gideon also scored a goal for the Ladycats to round out the scoring carousel for Aledo.

From here, the Ladycats enter District 5-5A play on Friday, Jan. 26, with a trip to Wichita Falls Rider. The Lady Raiders enter the match boasting a 7-2-3 record so far this season.

Kickoff for that match on Friday is slated for 5 p.m.
