Ladycats outlast Fossil Ridge

Victorious in home opener

Posted

The last week has been a test of endurance for the Aledo varsity volleyball squad, without question. After playing eight matches in a three-day trip to Katy over the weekend, the Ladycats went to the limit with Fossil Ridge in their home opener on Monday, August 14 before winning the match three sets to two.

Aledo (7-3) started off the match with the throttle on the floor. Each of the first two sets went to the home team by scores of 25-22 and 25-19 as the Lady Panthers fell behind with haste.

Facing an early end to the night, Fossil Ridge caught their second wind. The rival squads battled in two tightly contested sets before the Lady Panthers edged out a pair of late wins by tallies of 27-25 and 26-24, bringing the drama to a fever pitch in the final set.

In the final stanza of the evening the Ladycats mounted a rally Fossil Ridge could not keep pace with. By the time the dust cleared Aledo celebrated a 15-9 win in the final set to take the match.

Vivian Parker led the Ladycats with 24 digs and 18 kills while serving up three aces.

Ava Reding played the maestro conducting Aledo’s offense as she amassed a staggering 39 assists and four aces.

Alyssa Todd and Kinley Elms also finished in double-digits for kills. Todd scored 13 while Elms finished the match one off her pace with an even dozen of her own.

Ella Meador is already making an impact early on in her sophomore season. The first-year varsity player tacked on 17 digs to the score sheet. Meanwhile, Kenrie Pruitt and Logyn Denbow picked up 11 digs each while keeping the floor clear for the Ladycats.

Ella Isbell and Alyssa Todd stood like a stone wall as they combined for eight blocks to halt the Lady Panthers’ offense.

The Ladycats get some well-earned time off before their next match on Tuesday, Aug. 22 when they travel to Arlington to take on the hosting Lamar Lady Vikings. Start time for that match is slated for 6 p.m.
