It’s been a nice stretch for the Aledo Ladycats volleyball team.

After giving their coach, Claire Gay, her 500th career victory on Aug. 14, a 3-2 thrilling victory against Keller Fossil Ridge at home (25-21, 25-19, 25-27, 26-28, 15-9), they captured silver with their second-place finish in the Northwest Tournament over the weekend.

Then, the Ladycats hit the road on Tuesday, Aug. 22, where they decimated Lamar in straight sets on their home court to take the match.

Aledo (13-6) prevailed by scores of 25-11, 25-23, and 25-12 over the host Lady Vikings.

Kaelee Berkley and Kinley Elms dominated at the net for the Ladycats as they ended the match with 14 kills and 11 kills, respectively.

Kenrie Pruitt and Ella Meador scooped nine digs a piece in the match. Ava Reding amassed 23 assists. Alyssa Todd scored a pair of aces while serving and Haley Lowe picked up a pair of blocks in the middle of the net.

During tournament play starting on Thursday, Aug. 17, the Ladycats dusted off Waxahachie to win the match 2-1 in the opening round. Byron Nelson and Coronado handed Aledo back-to-back losses to close out the opening day with a 1-2 record.

Business picked up for the Ladycats on Day 2. They made short work of Lamar and Grapevine, winning in straight sets to start off the day. An unfortunate encounter with Rockwall led to the only loss of the day for Aledo to make them 3-3 in the tournament through the first couple days of competition.

Ella Meador holds Aledo's Consolation Silver Champion trophy from the Northwest Volleyball Classic where the Ladycats went 5-3.

On Saturday, August 19, Aledo closed out the tournament with wins over Ridge Point and Highland Park to secure their spot on the podium as they brought home the hardware.

Tournament season continues for the Ladycats this weekend as they will compete in the Arlington Classic.
