The Ladycats beat the Lady Hawks 13-8 on March 5 and run-ruled the Lady Rangers 18-0 on March 9 in four innings in a district game.
Aledo’s game at Rockwall-Heath saw the team face some early innings adversity. Both teams initially struggled to adjust to a stricter than usual strike zone that resulted in a lot of walks and therefore runs.
The Lady Hawks led 3-2 after the first inning before the Ladycats scored five runs in the second and led 7-5 heading into the third inning.
Aledo’s pitching and defense calmed down and was able to shutout Rockwall-Heath in four of the final five innings. The Ladycat bats were able to add to their lead, scoring runs in three of the final five innings, winning comfortably 13-8.
Three Aledo hitters went deep with Breleigh Mayer, Rylee Marx, and Tempe Perry each hitting home runs. Perry led the team with three RBIs. The team finished with 10 walks and seven hits during the game. On the base paths, Jordyn Edington swiped six bases and scored four runs to lead the team.
On the mound, Marx came in to pitch relief after a tough start to the game. She finished giving up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking five during seven innings of work. The defense committed one fielding error.
Coach Heather Myers thought her team showed good experience and maturity adjusting to how the game was called and made it work to their advantage.
The next game was a district contest at Chisholm Trail which was initially scheduled for Tuesday, but was moved to Monday due to predicted weather troubles. Aledo overwhelmed the Lady Rangers from the start, scoring four runs in the first inning, six in the third and eight in the fourth inning.
The Ladycats again were disciplined and had eight walks and seven hit batters which meant any base hits usually resulted in several runs coming across the board.
Kyleigh Pawlak led the team with five RBIs on two doubles hit. Gigi Martinez, Kennedy Cardenas and Edington each had two RBIs as well to help runs get runs in.
On defense, Lily Heckathorn got the start on the mound and gave up only two hits in four innings, striking out four batters. The defense had zero fielding errors.
Coach Myers had little to complain about in a game that ended in a run-rule victory and a shutout from pitcher Lily Heckathorn.
“Our pitcher did well with four strikeouts and only 44 pitches thrown,” Myers said. “She did her job executing her pitches. Our bats, we strung them together.”
Aledo is next scheduled to host district games against Keller Fossill Ridge at 7 p.m. on March 13 and play at 2 p.m. on March 16 at Saginaw.
