Ladycats dominant district display continues

Win streak reaches double digits

Posted

With just two matches remaining on the regular season schedule, Aledo’s Ladycat volleyball team continued to dominate district opponents with wins over Wichita Falls Rider and Saginaw this week.

Aledo’s win streak moved into double-digit territory with 10 wins in a row. The squad’s last loss came in the district opener against Northwest way back on Sept. 8.

The Ladycats (29-8 overall, 10-1 in District 5-5A) swept Rider and Saginaw. On Friday, Oct. 13, Aledo turned out to be Rider’s nightmare, slashing their way to victory with scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-9.

The horror show continued on Tuesday, Oct. 17, as the Ladycats preyed upon the Lady Rough Riders. Aledo carved up the competition, defeating Saginaw 25-16, 25-15, and 25-14 before the final credits rolled.

Vivian Parker led the Ladycats with a stellar performance, yet again. The Mizzou commit ended up with 22 kills, 46 digs, and four aces in the matches against Rider and Saginaw.

Alyssa Todd earned 21 kills and 18 digs for the week. Kinley Elms notched 19 kills and seven blocks in the twin bill.

Haley Lowe, who is usually most known for her savage defensive play at the net, picked up eight kills to go along with her eight blocks as she worked in some offense to accompany her spectacular defensive performances.

Ava Reding continues to be one of the most prolific offensive assets donning the orange and black this season. The Ladycat setter picked up another 64 assists, bringing her season total to 874. She had a pair of aces in the match against Wichita Falls Rider, as well.

Sophomore deep setter, Ella Meador, has made the most of her first season on the varsity squad. Against Rider and Saginaw, she picked up 11 digs accompanied by a trio of aces.

Other noteworthy contributors in the last week were Kenrie Pruitt with 28 digs, Sophia Frank with 12 assists, Ella Isbell and Skylar Lambert who ended the two matches with six blocks and two blocks, respectively.

From here the Ladycats hit the road to meet up with Brewer’s Lady Bears on Friday, Oct. 20, for the final district match of the season starting at 6 p.m. Aledo dominated the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season with a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Bears on Sept. 26.

The Ladycats will wrap up their 2023 regular season campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 24, when Burleson’s Lady Elks come to town. That match is slated to get underway at 5:30 p.m.
