Ladycats continue district dominance

Not that they lose all that often when playing softball in Aledo, but in district play they take things to another level.

The Ladycats ran their district winning streak to 33 straight with a 10-0 win at home over Saginaw on Monday, March 11. In a 3-0 start to league play (18-2 overall), they have outscored their opponents 41-1.

Of course, it’s nothing new for Aledo to dominate league opponents. Last season in going 12-0 in district they outscored their foes 141-8. The year before they went 10-0 in the league and had a 120-9 scoring advantage.

In defeating Saginaw, Brenlee Gonzales pitched a one-hitter. She struck out 11 and walked just one before the game was called after five innings.

The Friday before Gonzales pitched a three-hitter in a 14-1 win at Northwest. She struck out 14 with no walks and the run was unearned.

Ana Flores had a double, home run and drove in four runs against Saginaw, while Addie Perry had three hits, including a double, and Austyn Marriage’s pair of hits included a double.

In the win over Northwest, 10 different Ladycats had at least one base hit. Jordyn Edington led with three hits, including a pair of triples and a double, while Kennis Marx had three hits that included a double.

Also against Saginaw, the Ladycats stole eight bases, with Perry collecting four.

The Ladycats ran their overall winning streak to 14 games this season. They are ranked ninth in the state in Class 5A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Aledo is seeking a third trip to state in four seasons.

After spring break, the Ladycats return to district play at Brewer on March 19 at 6:30 p.m.
