Ladycats compete at state preview

Get glimpse of what may lie ahead

Posted

Aledo Ladycat golfers are no strangers when it comes to competing on the course hosting the state golf tournament.

In a preview of what may be coming up in the spring, the Ladycats varsity Black Team competed in the State Preview at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown. The course was the site of the 2023 Class 5A State Tournament this past May, in which the Ladycats participated.

And while the 2024 tournament is moving to Legacy Hills Golf Club, also in Georgetown, the environment remains the same - competing against some of the best teams the state of Texas has to offer.

The Ladycats posted a team score of 707 over the two-day tournament to place 13th in the field of 18. However, unlike other teams in the tourney, they were forced to play with only four players because Karlee Shaw had to withdraw due to an injury.

Typically, a team has five players in each round. Out of those, the four lowest scores comprise the team score. The Ladycats were not afforded the luxury of being able to discard the highest score as the other teams were.

“The others played well,” praised Aledo coach Brian Mourning. “Pretty loaded field.”

Aledo was led by Kyla Morales, who posted a two-day total of 162 (79-83). Emily Crick bounced back from an opening round of 90 to shoot 82 for a 172 total.

Also, Reagan Gilliland finished with a 178 and Kennedi Parker came in with a 195.

“We have a lot to work on, and after the tournament we talked about areas we need to focus on,” Mourning said. “Looking forward to getting back to work before next tournament.”

The Ladycats and Bearcats will wrap up the fall portion of the schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 15 when they compete in the District Preview at Sugar Tree Golf Club.
