Led by a sizzling 6-under-par 66 from Braden Stokes, the Aledo Bearcats captured first place in the fall Buzzy Open at Cross Timbers Golf Course in Azle on Monday, Oct. 27. Meanwhile, Emily Crick posted a 2-over-par 74 to lead the Ladycats to a championship in the girls division.

The Bearcats had a team score of 294 and the Ladycats had a 332.

Both Stokes and Crick also won top individual honors on the day as four members of each team posted top-10 finishes. Making Stokes’ accomplishment even more impressive, he had a triple bogey on the 10th hole to start the back nine.

Stokes and Crick both have experience at the 5A State Tournament. Crick qualified with the Ladycats as a team in 2023 and again individually in 2025, while Stokes qualified individually in 2024.

Along with Stokes at Azle, Christian Moll shot 75 for third, Logan Lund posted a 76 for fourth, Evan Boukadim came in with a 77 for fifth, and Tyler Anderson had an 83. Also for the Ladycats, Kylie Kirkland shot 82 for second, Harper Price and Sydney Purdon each registered an 88 to tie for fourth, and Addison Russ had a 91.

The four lowest individual scores comprise the team score.

“I thought we played well, Braden, especially, shooting 66. Proud of Christian, a sophomore, shooting 75 in the 2 position. He’s played well this fall and has earned that spot for now. Evan and Logan were steady and glad to see them in the seventies,” Aledo coach Brian Mourning said.

“Proud of Emily. She has the potential to go really low, and I think her best round is yet to come,” he continued. “She’s been hitting it well.

“Kylie Kirkland played and to see her in the low eighties is great. The other, Sydney and Harper slipped a little today, but they will bounce back. Addison has been playing well and we’re looking for her to keep getting better. All the kids played well.”

The Aledo Orange teams also played at Azle. The Bearcats shot 335 and the Ladycats had a 387.

Alec Dolman led the Bearcats Orange with an 89, while Pierce Russom shot 80, Archer English 87, Ainsley English 89, and Andrew Todey 94. McKenzie Todey’s 93 paced the Ladycats, followed by Sydney Russell with a 94, Macy Martinak 98, and Morgan Mahagan and Emma Mangels each registered a 102.

The Ladycats Orange also recently finished fourth at the Burleson Centennial Tournament at Southern Oaks Golf Course in Burleson, shooting a 402. Individual scored were Kirkland 90, Russell 103, Martinak 104, Mangels 105, and Gahagan 113.

The Bearcats and Ladycats varsity Black teams will wrap up the fall at the Mansfield Lake Ridge Two Step at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie. The boys varsity Orange will compete in the Burleson Centennial Tournament at Southern Oaks on Nov. 5. The girls varsity Orange has completed its fall schedule.
